More Restoration Pictures

In 2003 we set about restoring a derelict 24 room grade II listed property  and turning it into the regions self catering holiday of the year for 2006

Above - Before and After at the front note the new "Georgian" window on the right to replace the Edwardian shop bay window of the driving test centre, the little cellar windows put back in and the elegant glazing on the front door at the left replacing the plywood.

Above - Before and After- "Chequergate" Kitchen

Below - Before and After "Upgate" Bedroom

Below - Joiners replace the front guttering high above Eastgate pavement below using a template from the original with St. James church in the background.

Below - It's hard to believe now but the second floor was in a terrible state as the roof was buckling, the deflected beam purlin was eventually replaced with steel.  On removing this section of roof the floor boards below and the ceiling had to be replaced which afforded an uninterrupted view across Louth from the now "Chequergate" main bedroom and Chequergate bathroom.

Below - Most windows at the back were replaced although the two Georgian windows were restored retaining the actual sliding sashes and making new frames to fit.  Look carefully though and you will see huge grooves between the bricks were the lime mortar has eroded away over the years. Re-pointing the brickwork at the back (south) and along the west side took over 3 months and was a major part of the restoration work.
