Restoration of a Georgian Building in an urban setting -
COMMENDED:

All Seasons were invited to enter for this award by the
Georgian Group and were delighted to receive a commendation from HRH Duke of
Kent. The restoration of 140 - 142 Eastgate and its rapid transformation
from a derelict driving test centre into the East Midlands Self Catering Holiday
of the Year in just 3 years were applauded by the sponsors, Savills and the
judges. The judges included amongst others the Chairs of Christie's UK
Charles Cator and Lady Nutting OBE of the Georgian Group, The Vice-President of
Conde Nast International Mr Nicholas Coleridge and the director of country
property at Savills Mr Crispin Holborow.
The Georgian building in an urban category had a
number of entries from around the UK (including Westgate House , also in Louth)
and was eventually whittled down to just two finalists Adrian and Amanda Budd at
All Seasons, Louth and the eventual winners, Bath City Council for their
restoration of The Cross Bath in Bath.
Introducing the awards, the President of the
Georgian Group, Lord Crathorne was complimentary not only of the restoration
work of All Seasons but also of the town of Louth. He and the judges were
most impressed that Louth was the only town to submit not one but two entries
into the awards. Lord Crathorne commented on what a fine Georgian town Louth is
reminding a packed audience of dignitaries, clients and architects of Rick
Steins comments that Louth was indeed "one of the finest little market
towns in Britain".
On presenting the award HRH Duke of Kent
congratulated the couple and said how impressed he was with the quality of the
work we had done. He was particularly impressed that we had found a use for the
property for holidays and also that we had converted part of the property as our
family home. Later on after the award ceremony he was kind enough to speak
to our children, Frazer age 6 and Lewis age 8.
140 - 142 Eastgate and the holiday apartments
available in this Georgian grade 2 listed are now featured on a huge A0 size
display in the auction rooms in Christies. For anyone attending auctions,
All Seasons restoration display along with the other winners and commended
buildings for this years awards can be seen at Christies and will remain at the
auction house until February 2007.
The Georgian Group Architectural Awards,
sponsored by international estate agents Savills, recognise exemplary
conservation and restoration projects in the United Kingdom and reward those who
have shown the vision and commitment to restore Georgian buildings and
landscapes. Awards are also given for high-quality new buildings in Georgian
contexts and new architecture in the Classical tradition.
This
year's Awards were presented by His Royal Highness The Duke of Kent at
Christie's on 2 November 2006. Press and other inquiries: Robert Bargery 07766
